Significant jawbone loss also prevents dentures from fitting properly. When this happens, lots of messy adhesive must be used to keep them in place.

What is the All-on-4 Method?
A certain amount of bone structure is needed to properly support dental implants. Typically, the implant fixtures are placed vertically, but if bone resorption has occurred, there may not be enough bone quantity to place them this way. Bone grafting is one way to solve this problem, but it adds significant healing time and cost to the process.
The All-on-4 method is another solution, one that many patients find more convenient. It involves placing the implants at an angle rather than vertically. This process achieves sufficient structural support by making the best use of the amount of bone you have. The name “All-on-4” refers to the number of implants (often 4) used to support each denture. But more implants can be used for even greater stability.
How It Works
During the surgery appointment we’ll place a full set of provisional dentures, so you’ll be able to leave your appointment with a full set of teeth. Then, once healing is complete, we’ll place your permanent dentures. Here’s a look at our three-step process, from initial exam to finished dentures.
Step 1: Comprehensive Exam
To begin, we’ll see you for an oral exam, including scans and x-rays. We’ll also check your medical history to verify that you are a good candidate for dental implants. An important part of this visit is the CBCT scan, which provides a full 3D picture of your mouth and the surrounding area so we can plan the ideal placement for each implant. With this view, we can ensure that the implants are situated properly in the bone and don’t interfere with nerves, blood vessels, or sinus cavities. At this visit, we’ll also take impressions of your arches so we can design your custom-fitted dentures. Then, we’ll get to work on creating your provisional dentures.
Step 2: Implant Surgery
Next, you’ll be ready to have your implants surgically placed. For All-on-4 implant surgery, we’ll refer you to an oral surgeon with whom we work closely. After the procedure, your surgeon will affix your provisional dentures. You won’t have to wait for your gums to heal to begin enjoying the benefits of implant-supported dentures! Meanwhile, we’ll create your permanent dentures.
Step 3: Permanent Dentures
We’ll allow a few months post-surgery for the implants to fuse to your jawbone. This process is called osseointegration. After this time, we’ll schedule a time to place your permanent dentures. Your new smile will be complete!
