What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is any complication with your teeth or gums that is of urgent concern, either because it causes you pain or because it affects your appearance. Examples of dental emergencies include:

Root Canal Treatment

Many people dread the thought of having to have a root canal. If this is you, a little information may help put your mind at ease. The purpose of a root canal is to save an infected tooth so that it doesn’t have to be extracted and later replaced. With the latest techniques, root canals are usually not nearly as difficult for patients as tooth extractions.

To save the tooth during a root canal, we first get rid of the dead or diseased tissue within the tooth. Then, we completely clean out the tooth. Finally, we fill the tooth with a sealant so that bacteria can never get inside it again. A successful root canal lasts a lifetime; the treated tooth can never again get infected!
